A lot of things in life are already established, right? You study hard so you can go to college, from there you graduate college and get a job. Maybe somewhere along the way, you find the love of your life, settle down and have children. You work hard to provide for your family, and so on…
What would happen if you were to challenge this and create your own rules?
Kayla Sloan, from one of the top personal finance blogs kaylasloan.com did exactly that!
Who is Kayla Sloan?
In 2015, Kayla decided to take her blogging journey to the next level. She made the decision to leave her job and make blogging a full time career, even though her finances “were a disaster”. In a very delicate moment of her life with a big debt to pay, Kayla gave up her steady income to focus on herself. Not long after, Kayla’a blog became recognized as one of the best Personal Finance blogs out there.
Featured on Time, Credit, Entrepreneur, The Huffington Post, and more, kaylasloan.com grew in a way that Kayla never expected:
“At the beginning, I didn’t even know that you could make money blogging”
Now, after realizing she could turn what she thought was no more than a hobby into a full-time career, Kayla spends her days helping people organize their finances and making their lives better.
Kayla took a little time out of her day to share her story with Joao from the 30 Day Blog Challenge. They discuss how her blogging adventure began, what she thinks is necessary to have a successful blog, her secret to monetizing her blog, and so much more!

Kayla gave some great advice through out the interview for new bloggers. However, we really liked the 3 tips she gave you on starting a blog:
Kayla's 3 Tips for Starting Out on Your Blogging Journey
1. Make sure you pick something that your really passionate about. You can fizzle out as a blogger if don't choose a topic or niche that really care about.
2. Start as a self hosted blogger. There are free blogging platforms available, but if you want to be taken seriously you need to get your host and domain name.
If you need help choosing a web host check out our blog on “How to Choose a Website Host”.
3. Be yourself, find your voice. Don't just do what you see other people doing, do what feels right for your audience and for yourself.
Now, take this advice and run with it!

You must know the topic you are talking about. This requires experience, because without that you don`t know the market, i.e. what people need. The better if you have a strong desire to fill the gap in the market. Your own personal style is, what builds your brand.
